剑桥雅思 18-Tset1-passage3  重点词汇

作为test1最后一篇阅读, Conquering earth’s space junk problem(解决地球上空垃圾问题)篇幅较长，但全文结构清晰，内容直接明了。其主要内容可分为三个部分：首先介绍了现存的太空垃圾问题——包括地球轨道上人造物品过多、垃圾增速过快；然后介绍了相应的解决办法——比如太空交通管理， 精准定位等。最后提到了这些办法的局限。本篇文章的题型是5道段落信息匹配题，4道总结填空题和5道人名观点配对题。两种匹配题型难度较大，填空题较简单。

让我们看看本篇文章有那些值得学习的太空类表达吧！


1. Last year, commercial companies, military and civil departments and amateurs sent more than 400 satellites into orbit, over four times the yearly average in the previous decade. Number could rise even more sharply if leading space companies follow through on plans to deploy hundreds to thousands of large constellations of satellites to space in the next few years. (para. A)

去年，商业公司、军事和民用部门以及业余爱好者将400多颗卫星送入轨道，是过去十年平均数量的四倍多。如果领先的太空公司按计划在未来几年内部署几百到几千个大型卫星群到太空，这个数字可能还会继续急剧上升。

satellite 名词，意思是“卫星”。
常见表达：communication satellite（通讯卫星）。
orbit 名词，意思是“轨道”。
常见表达：low Earth orbit （近地轨道）；in orbit（在轨道上）。
constellations of satellites 卫星群；constellation意思有星座、星群。

2. Just a few uncontrolled space crashes could generate enough debris to set off arunawaycascade of fragments, rendering near-Earth space unusable. (para. B)

几次不受控的太空碰撞就能生产足够多的残骸，进而触发一系列失控的太空碎片，导致近地空间无法使用。


Space crashes 太空碰撞。
Debris 名词，碎片、残骸；space debris 太空残骸、太空碎片。
Runaway 形容词，此处意思是“失控的”。
A cascade of 意思是“一系列的、一连串的”。

3. Even as our ability to monitor space objects increases, so too does the total number of items in orbit. (para. C )

即使我们检测太空物品的能力在增强，但同样，轨道上物体的总数也在增加。


在这里我们一起积累一个句式：
(Just) as... so too 意思是“正如...， ...也一样。” Just可以省略，so too 后面大部分情况下要倒装。

例句：
Just as there are culpable omissions, so too can there be blameless acts.
正如存在难辞其咎的失职行为，无可指责的履职行为也可以存在。
As society changes, so too do the illnesses.
社会在发展，各种疾病也在变化。

4. That would alleviate the need for many of the unnecessary maneuvers that are carried out to avoid potential collisions. (para. D)

这将减少许多为了避免潜在碰撞而采取的非必要的操作。

Maneuver 是名词，此处英文释义是“a procedure or method of working usually involving expert physical movement”。中文意思是“一种工作过程或操作方法，通常涉及专业的物理运动”。
例句：
It is possible that they might have naval maneuvers to interfere with fish and shipping.
他们有可能进行一些海军操作去干涉渔业和海运。

5. Planes line up in the sky, landing and taking off close to one another in a carefully choreographed routine. (para. E)

飞机在空中排着队，按照精心编排的次序紧挨着彼此起飞降落。

Choreographed 形容词，编排的。
Choreograph 动词，意思是：“编舞、精心策划、安排”。
例句：
You can use them to define steps of your business logic, and to coordinate and choreograph other services.
你可以使用它们来定义你的业务逻辑，去协调和策划其他服务。
What I would really like to do is to choreograph.
我真的想做的事情是编舞。
